Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College invited guest speaker from the Faculty of Business Administration of the University of Macau, Assistant Professor Robin Chark to a give a talk entitled: What is ‘Rationality’? on afternoon of 15th March 2017. There were over 40 students and faculty staff joined the talk.

In the talk, Dr. Chark shared with the participants how we will make millions of decisions in we life, from picking an apple in the supermarket to choosing our career, our decisions will be affected by many external factors and process of such decision making is rather interesting. Dr. Chark also introduces the concept of rationality in different period of times, e.g. Ionian Enlightenment in the 6th century BC, to nowadays in different disciplines (e.g., philosophy, psychology, sociology). Dr. Chark also discussed “Rationality” or its negation from a behavioral economics perspective. through the interactive discussion, he also raised a discussion on how some seemingly “irrational” behaviors may have better results in some cases and how people did not make the“right” decision by some standards. At last, by further blurring the line between rationality and irrationality, he also encourage the participants for having more in-depth reflection on the above discussion.
