MLC Activity Highlights: Lunch Seminar Series – World Languages

On 26 September 2018, Ma Man Kei and Lo Pak Sam College invited Prof. Antony John Kunnan, the Associate Dean from Faculty of Arts and Humanities at the University of Macau to a give a lunch seminar entitled “World Languages”. Prof Kunnan began his talk by showing the origin of different natural languages in the World. He explained that languages can be constructed, such as Klingon in the Star Trek movie. Then Prof. Kunnan moved on to talk about the different languages in Africa, Europe, North America and Asia by showing the students different songs in these regions. Prof Kunnan concluded the talk by telling the story of how James Cameron, the writer and director of 2009 film Avatar, approached Prof. Paul R. Frommer to invent Na’vi, which is the language that was used in the Avatar movie.
